Dr. Mellert is currently practicing at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio and serves as the co-director of National Surgery Review. He completed his fellowship in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at Summa Health and his general surgery residency at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He is Board Certified in General Surgery by The American Osteopathic Association.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering with a polymer specialization from The University of Akron and is a graduate of Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.  

Dr. Mellert’s specialty and research interests include laparoscopic and minimally surgery, bariatrics, hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction. He has a strong passion for surgical education. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters and surgical videos.
